Early Life and Education
Matthew Louis Gaetz III was born on May 7, 1982, in Hollywood, Florida. He attended Niceville High School and later graduated from Florida State University in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He then earned his Juris Doctor from the College of William & Mary Law School in 2007.

Gaetz began his political career as a member of the Florida House of Representatives in 2010. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the House Majority Whip in 2014 and the House Minority Leader in 2016. In 2016, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Florida’s 1st congressional district.
Current Position
Gaetz is currently serving his third term in the U.S. House of Representatives. He is a member of the House Judiciary Committee, the House Armed Services Committee, and the House Committee on the Budget. He is also the Ranking Member of the House Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties.
